Rabies is a viral
disease that is caused by the virus called Lyssavirus which includes rabies
virus and Australian bat lyssavirus. It harms the immune system of the human
body. Rabies is a serious disease and the person who is affected with rabies
virus needs proper treatment to get rid of it.
It is transferred to Human body via bites and scratches
of different animals that are affected with rabies virus like foxes, raccoons, cats,
dogs, rabbits and bats. Here we will discuss how rabies is spread via bats,
what are its effects and possible remedies for it.
Rabid bats are the bats
affected by rabies virus. Well, bats play a main role in the eco system of this
world. They are found almost everywhere from deserts to rushed cities. They can
damage the crops and farms. They can even bite a person if the person irritates
them. Image what happens if the bats are affected with rabid and they are found
in our crops or they bite us. Obviously the rabies virus will be transferred
into our body and we’ll catch into rabies.
Bat rabies can also be
transmitted to human body via bites or scratches of other animals that are
affected of rabid bats. We have to take special care of the check on the rabies
virus because it can even be transferred via our domestic pets if they are affected
with rabid bats.
Facts of rabies transmitted via bats:
Well, it is clear that
bats carry rabies and rabies can be transmitted via bats. The extent to which
bats carry and transmit rabies is a point to be noted. There is very few evidence
of the fact that the bats are major source of transmitting rabies. Studies show
that less than 1% of bats carry rabies virus and transmit it.
The question is how can
we know if the bat is affected of rabies virus or not? If the group of bat is
residing in the home or some other places, it is difficult to judge if that
group has rabies virus or not. Bats are usually not found during the day time
but if we find a bat during day and is sick and weak, we can likely say that
the bat is carrying rabies virus.
Safety precaution if bitten by a bat:
You are bitten by a bat
and you are not sure if the bat has rabies virus, you must take some safety precautions
by yourself i.e.
Wash the bitten
area and wound with anti-virus soap and water.
Remove the blood
from the floor or other places if it has bled to make sure that no other person
gets affected by rabies virus.
Visit the doctor
as soon as possible to make sure that if you are safe of rabies virus or not.
If the bat is
found affected with rabies virus and you are affected by the bite, take proper
treatment and vaccination urgently.
Symptoms of rabies:
If you are affected of
rabies virus and you have caught in to rabies but you are unaware of it than
what will you do? Here are the symptoms
of rabies which must be taken seriously if found in victim.
between the rabies infection and appearance of symptoms is usually one to three
months. Early symptoms of the rabies are general like fever, weakness and
gets stronger, it causes soreness of brain.
If the person has
caught into paralytic rabies, he
becomes slightly or partial paralyzed. This is not a common form of rabies but
if happens it ends into the coma or death of the infected person.
The other form
of rabies is furious rabies, where
person exhibits different symptoms such as;
Fear of water
Treatment of rabies:
Once the rabies is
exposed, it should be treated properly. The Centers of Disease Control and
Prevention highly recommend people to take:
A dose of Human Rabies
Immunoglobulin (HRIG) at first. It should not exceed 20units per kilogram body
rabies vaccine over a period of 14 days. These are given with the break in 3, 7
and 14 days after the first dose.
