No assumptions of uniformities leads to no knowledge. Uniformities can be be applied to area of knowledge differently. Uniformity refers to a uniform or constant approach that enables us to gain knowledge. This approach can refer to patterns, rules, or formula. Uniformity can be continuous or a general and common, that is applied in a discipline where knowledge can be gained from and these uniformities do not necessarily have to exist. Assumptions can be subconsciously taken into consideration when obtaining knowledge in a discipline since it is what people tend to do. Assumptions are not necessarily regarded with subconsciousness of human behavior as assumptions can be conscious decisions of memory and intuition, where knowledge can be derived. This is generally the result of a rule being acknowledged in the discipline without any evidence of being true. In the natural sciences the uniformities are in the form of rules that are applied generally in a theory that is universal and in the arts it is the process of portraying a piece of painting, music or play through a connection with the audience. This begs to ask if there can be knowledge without the assumption of uniformities in the natural sciences and in the arts?The laws and theories in natural sciences cannot be universal if they aren’t applicable to a subject, which is why no knowledge is produced without an no assumption of uniformities. Having done my Extended Essay in biology that was essentially a lab report and have gained knowledge and understanding from the uniformity approach. In the report a hypothesis is stated that is essentially a prediction of my results. This prediction can only be made if I have knowledge on the topic previously. Previous knowledge is used to construct the experiment and calculate certain points in the report for concluding the information and generating new knowledge. For instance understanding how the intestine functioned and processed allowed me to develop a model that represented the intestine and produce results. Previous knowledge from patterns and rules that I have researched about the topic will apply to my lab report which means that based knowledge I am assuming that my results that I will gain helpful information. This also applies to the data processing section of the lab report. The model developed from the intestine has generated useful data even though it is not a real life intestine with limitations although assumptions are taken into consideration and information is still derived. This raises the question to what extent does nature’s rule apply in reality? Since the model was not a real life intestine do the rules or concepts improve our understanding of a discipline based of assumptions to derive knowledge and conclusions. Predicting to further conclusions in the natural sciences with the same previous knowledge means that the focus will be limited to a certain extent. Primarily because the new knowledge is being developed from existing knowledge. The other fields of knowledge in the subject might need to be explored or discovered in order to find out new knowledge which disrupts the idea of uniformity because breaking certain concepts or laws will expose us to more knowledge. In this case the past known knowledge does not apply to when gaining understanding or new knowledge. For instance Elon Musk created Tesla in hopes to change the way we utilize our cars be recreating electrically powered cars(http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-40762328 ). Through our previous knowledge it has been known that electric cars will not reach the same speed as diesel cars and but imagination and reason lead to the creation of Tesla that in many ways is more beneficial than a diesel car. This goes to show that paradigm shifts in the way we think can make difference to our knowledge outcomes and how we derive knowledge from it. These cars completely changed perspectives on electric cars related on energy and speed in the car industry that it changed the uniformity or the regularity in the cars. The outcome of this new knowledge can help teach us more knowledge about information we did not know existed. This shows that there needs be broken uniformities in order to broaden the scope of new knowledge whereas with Tesla cars they develop learning from more broaden discoveries. The arts have uniformities in the field where knowledge can be extracted from. The idea that art has various interpretations or judgements of a piece. Arts can be analysed and discussed due to various emotions, patterns, interpretations that are applicable in many of the arts related fields such as music or paintings. The arts has various sides to the discussion relating to many ways of knowing. To what extent can art help in gaining knowledge? This question asks if art is knowledgable or if it is seen as more of emotion and through this art can be analysed. When an art piece or musical piece has an aesthetic sound or image people normally feel the same way if it has a clear meaning. Feeling the same towards a piece of art is a uniformity in the sense there is same emotion we feel towards the piece whether that is affection, anger, depression or any other. This is sense of internal knowledge that people can assume or justify what is beautiful and what is not. For instance personally being from India listening to singers such as Arijit Singh or A. R Rahman who are known singers and their composition of lyrics and vocals really sit in with the audience’s souls as they make us feel a certain way. Sound and language are elements that combine together to produce the song that affects the mood of the audience. Certain notes when in different combinations, pitches, tempo and frequency can be associated with certain emotion that affects how an individual feels similarly with the words. This can be applied as regulation in music almost as everyone will feel similarly towards the piece.
