Maddie ZinserMooneyhanDecember 5th, 2017Blue 1 Final Project: Music throughout the DecadesMusic has been around for years and has been ever changing. It has different cultures and backgrounds that are all unique in sound. It has also evolved in the United States since the early 1900’s: Blues to Early Rock and Roll, (Folk Rock)Early Rock and Roll to Hard Rock/Heavy Metal, Heavy Metal Hard Rock to (Prog Rock)Glam Rock, Glam Rock to Funk, Funk to Disco, Disco to Punk, Punk to New Wave, New Wave to Grunge, and Grunge to Hip Hop/Rap. Music now will continue to influence new genres as the future comes. In the early years of the 1900’s Blues was extremely popular. Blues was originally for African Americans who sang about their struggles. One Blues artist name Fats Domino was especially well known. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1928. He was the youngest of eight children. He was a very talented child by the time he was 10 he knew how to play the piano and was a singer. When Fats Domino became 14 he dropped out of high school to pursue a music career. He soon started playing the piano for Billy Diamond. Diamond was the one who gave him the nickname “Fats”. He was popular among the black and the white public. The song “Ain’t that a Shame” made him became mainstream and widespread. He contributed the early sounds of rock along with adding rhyme to it.Next, Early Rock and Roll came about taking influences from Blues and adding the Electric Guitar to the new sound. Elvis Presley is considered the King of Rock and Roll. Presley received his first guitar as a gift from his mother on his 11th birthday in 1946 and had his first taste of musical success a few years later when he won a talent show at Humes High School in Memphis. After graduating in 1953, he worked a number of jobs while pursuing his musical dream. He cut his first demo record at what later became known as Sun Studio. His famous songs “Hound Dog” and “Heartbreak Hotel”. He took Blues and mixed it with a new style of Rock and Roll.So on, Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. The band was founded in September 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul. Their original drummer and guitarist left the bad to be apart of a more popular band called Atomic Opera when the band first got together and until a lot of heavy metal band the lead singer can sing. Their song “Before I Forget” has been called one of the greatest of the genre. They have also been called the pioneers of New Wave of Heavy Metal.Next, Twisted Sister was apart of the Glam Rock genre. They had a very extensive musical background. In the band Twisted Sister what makes them unique is the show that they can put on and that they do put makeup with doing so. I chose them because I believe they are highly successful. Their song “We’re not going to take it” was such a huge hit it made them attract more fame. They also did have a legal battle with if their lyrics were obscene. They contributed the punk style of performance with a message within the lyrics.James brown was well known for being in the Funk genre and being the “Godfather of Soul”. He lived in extreme poverty and only stayed in school until sixth grade. He began singing as a gospel singer. He was apart of other band’s that were not his own when he did started, but soon went on his own. He had a backing band that was called the Jame Brown Band or James Brown Orchestra. Brown had 16 singles go number 1 on the billboard R charts. He received the honors by the Songwriters hall of fame. He came from a very poor family, but it did not stop him from chasing his dreams. He famous songs were “Get Up” and “I Got A Feelin”. He contributed the sound of disco but as well as the rhyme. The singer named Sylvester that was apart of Disco. He had a hard life as he was growing up because ever since he was a young child we knew ewe was gay. His mother did not approve at all and Sylvester stopped going to Church on his mother’s order when he was 13. In 1970, he tried to start up a band, but it did not last and he soon went to San Francisco he liked how it was reputed as gay and a haven. What makes him unique is that he did stand up for himself and did not take bullying of any kind. His Album “Step II” was a success and he continued to put of more. I chose him because he was the best disco artist of his time.Blink-182, the Punk band had a lot of musical background as they were growing up. What makes them unique is that their lead singer has a voice that is completely different sounding than any other band. I chose them because I love their songs and the band. Their songs “All the Small Things” and “What’s My Age Again?” made them breakout. They contributed the sound of Punk music but their lyrics were more thought out than other Punk bands. The Go Go’s, which were apart of New Wave, didn’t have a lot of musical background. They just decided to make a band themselves. They got very famous from their music video, which are the ones when they drive in a car or lie in a fountain. I chose them because they bring a lot of girl power to a male dominant industry. Their album “Beauty and the Beat”, went triple platinum. They contributed a pop sounding sound that mixed with rock. Kurt Cobain, which was apart of the Grunge genre was in the band Nirvana. He at first did not even think about music. Despite this, he had one of the most famous bands of all time that if you wear their merchandise someone won’t believe that you actually like the band. His band’s first hit was “It smells like teen spirit” and after they continued to make even bigger hits to exceed more fame. Though, Kurt did have drug issues and died young. He has contributed the sounds of hard and metal by instruments but with poetic lyrics. In Hip Hop, Curtis Jackson, or more well known as 50 Cent was a very popular artists in this genre. He was born in New York, New York on July 6th, 1975. He had a very rough young life due to his single mother being a drug dealer and that she died in a fire when he was eight years old. He then had to live with his grandmother. When he was young he wanted to be a boxer but at the age of 12 he started to sell drugs. When he was 19 he got caught with drugs and was originally sentenced to prison to 3 to 9 years but he got his GED and went to a boot camp to shape up. He was found by a man by the name of Jam Master Jay from the group Run-DMC. He believe Jackson had a bright future in rapping and made him an album, though he did not release and come out. He had another album with Columbia record but the album, Power of the Dollar, says how to steal from celebrities like Jay-Z. His album, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, was produced by Eminem and Dr. Dre. It sold 9 million units. The strong hooks and his personal appearance also helped the album sell.Prediction: I think what will come next will probably be another form of rap. The young generation or youths are listening to rap and i do not think it will stop anytime soon so I believe maybe an artist will make rap into something different but at the same time similar.
