It is hard to say who was the most influential artist or band of all time. With so many talented groups throughout the history of music, many different people can hold the title of most influential. Along with all of the different genres of “Rock and Roll” you can’t really say one band had a bigger impact than one another.Chuck Berry was an American singer and one of the pioneers of rock and roll music. With songs such as “Maybellene”, “Roll Over Beethoven”, “Rock and Roll Music” and “Johnny B. Goode”, Berry developed rhythm and blues into the major elements that made rock and roll distinctive. Berry was important to rock and roll as he paved the way for artist such as Johnny Cash, Diana Ross, and many other artist. I chose Chuck Berry as he was such a influence on music in his time and to this day he still influences bands and artist all over the world. Johnny Cash was a singer/songwriter, guitarist, and actor. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 90 million records worldwide. Although primarily remembered as a country music icon, his genre-spanning songs and sound embraced rock and roll, rockabilly, blues, folk, and gospel. This crossover appeal won Cash the rare honor of multiple inductions in the Country Music, Rock and Roll, and Gospel Music Halls of Fame. Cash was the influence for many bands like AC/DC, David Bowie, Tom Petty and probably every artist ever. I chose cash as he is probably one of the most well known artist of all time and i do enjoy his music very much. AC/DC are an Australian rock band, formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. A hard rock/blues rock band. They have also been considered a heavy metal band although they have always described their music simply “rock and roll”. I chose ACDC because Angus Young in my opinion is one of the greatest guitarist of all time. They were also one of the most influential rock and roll bands giving inspiration to bands such as nirvana and artist like tom petty. David Bowie was an English singer, songwriter and actor. He was a leading figure in popular music for over five decades, acclaimed by critics and other musicians for his innovative work. His career was marked by reinvention and visual presentation, his music and stagecraft significantly influencing popular music. During his lifetime, his record sales, estimated at 140 million albums worldwide, made him one of the world’s best-selling music artists. David Bowie influenced so many people not only by his music but how he presented himself with his image. Along with great music bowie had a very unique style that drew attention and fame making him one of the most recognizable artist ever.James Brown was an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer and bandleader. A progenitor of funk music and a major figure of 20th century popular music and dance, he is often referred to as the Godfather of Soul. In a career that lasted 50 years, he influenced the development of several music genres. With a career that lasted that long it is hard to say that he never influenced anyone. However brown took much influence from artists like Chuck Berry and Johnny Cash. Diana Ross began singing with friends as a teenager and eventually formed the 1960s trio the Supremes going on to have hits like “Come See About Me” and “You Can’t Hurry Love.” Ross left for a solo career in 1969, later reaching No. 1 with hits like “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” and “Love Hangover”. She has won several major awards, including a Golden Globe, a Tony and several American Music Awards. Ross was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 as part of the Supremes. Ross drew influence from artist like Chuck Berry and James brown with the funk/soul music turning it into disco. Green Day is an American punk rock band formed in 1986 by lead vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt. For much of the band’s career, they have been a trio with drummer Tre Cool, who replaced John Kiffmeyer in 1990. Guitarist Jason White, who has been a touring member since 1999, was a member from 2012 to 2016. Green Day got most of their influence from rock bands like ACDC, Bon Jovi, and too many more to name. I chose Green Day as they were what I listened to as a kid. Tom Petty… RIP…. was an singer/songwriter, record producer, and actor. Petty served as the lead singer of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He was also a member and co-founder of the late 1980s group the Traveling Wilburys, and his early band Mudcrutch. Petty recorded a number of hit singles with the Heartbreakers and as a solo artist. In his career, he sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 2001 Petty was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He died at 66 of cardiac arrest on October 2, 2017. Nirvana was an American rock band formed by Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined in 1990. Despite releasing only three full-length studio albums in their seven-year career, Nirvana has come to be regarded as one of the most influential and important alternative bands in history. I chose nirvana as Mr. Strack the football coach played this song so much I can sing along to just about everyone of their songs. Tupac Shakur was on of if not the greatest hip hop artist of all time. Shakur sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. His double disc albums All Eyez on Me and his Greatest Hits are among the best-selling albums in the United States. I chose Tupac as he is probably the first hip hop/ rap artist I ever listened to and still listen to today. We also share the same birthday (June 16) which is very cool.
